Accra ,September 27 – The global community today celebrates World Tourism Day, highlighting the sector’s immense potential to drive economic growth, foster cultural exchange, and promote international understanding.

Established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 1980, World Tourism Day aims to raise awareness about tourism’s benefits and address industry challenges.

“This year’s theme, ‘Rethinking Tourism,’ encourages us to rethink the sector’s role in building a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future,” said UNWTO Secretary-General.

World Tourism Day promotes:
Sustainable tourism development
Cultural heritage preservation
Tourism and biodiversity conservation
Accessibility and inclusive tourism

Global celebrations include:
– Conferences and seminars
– Cultural festivals and exhibitions
– Tourism fairs and exhibitions
– Community-based tourism initiatives
– Social media campaigns

Tourism’s impact:
Creates jobs and stimulates economic growth
Promotes cultural understanding and exchange
Supports conservation and sustainable development
Fosters global cooperation and peace

“World Tourism Day reminds us of tourism’s transformative power,” said Emmanual Frimpong tourism industry expert. “Let’s work together to build a brighter future for all.”

On his part Mr Bernard Annoh the CEO of Flickz Tourism Cinema limited advocates for collaboration between Governments and private sector entities to work together to develop a sustainable tourism and travel industry for jobs creation for the youth.
